Advertising your job with Kalayaan:

Kalayaan is not a job agency. Our work is to campaign on behalf of and support migrant domestic workers.

If you want to advertise a position for a domestic worker to the workers who come to Kalayaan please fill in the form below and we will put it up in our centre. New positions go up on Monday.

Kalayaan has a strict equal opportunities policy. We work with migrant domestic workers from all over the world who are already in the UK and we do NOT accept any specification of nationality, religion, or race. The only exception to this might be language needs or specific cooking requirements. In order that we can ensure that any job advertised complies with UK employment law such as the National Minimum Wage please complete ALL sections of the form.

Any position that does not comply with the National Minimum Wage (NMW) which is currently £6.08 a hour (October 2011) WILL NOT be advertised. It is an offence to pay below the NMW. Please note that the NMW is the MINIMUM you are legally allowed to pay to anyone you employ in the UK and is not recommended wage. Kalayaan would recommend a living wage of at least £7.50 per hour.

Due to the nature of 'live in' work inevitably involving a lot of hours we will not advertise any part time ‘live in’ jobs or any ‘live in’ job which pays less than £225 per week . Again this figure is a minimum and not a recommendation. Please calculate a live in salary by the hours you want your employee to work.

Any employer submitting this form commits to complying with UK employment law including Tax and National Insurance obligations. For more information on registering with the Inland Revenue as an employer click here.

All domestic workers need to renew their work permits annually. Their employer will need to provide confirmation of the details of their employment to the Home Office to support  their application to renew their visa.

The job service is a free service run for Domestic Workers who need to find jobs. However donations to cover staff time, phone calls and printing costs from employers who feel they have benefited from the service are most welcome. We would recommend donating £10. Cheques can be made out to 'Kalayaan' and sent to us a St Francis Centre, 13 Hippodrome Place, London, W11 4SF. Or click on the ‘donations’ link above.
