The Community Engagement Programme is more than a support network; it’s a movement. A space to reclaim power, demand rights, and build a future where no worker is left behind. Whether you’re a domestic worker seeking to know your rights, improve job opportunities, and access healthcare, or a volunteer ready to stand in solidarity, this is where change begins.
What we do:
- Know Your Rights: Learn about employment laws, immigration rights, and protections against exploitation
- Build Your Future: Gain skills in employability, financial literacy, digital access, and public speaking
- Raise Your Voice: Campaign for visa reform, challenge injustice, and engage with policymakers
- Heal and Connect: A space for peer support, collective healing, and sharing lived experiences
English Classes
Kalayaan offers face to face English classes at two different levels on Sundays during term time at our centre in Holland Park.
Class sizes are small and in addition to an English teacher there are assistants who provide help for less confident students. The classes are organised by a highly experienced and qualified ESOL (English for speakers of Other Languages) teacher who also teaches classes alongside volunteer teachers and volunteer teaching assistants.
The classes are an opportunity for workers to meet friends and socialise. In addition, there are occasional outings and picnics at parks in the Greater London area. The coordinator also offers 1-1 advice sessions about the Life in the UK test and the B1 SELT Speaking and Listening test for domestic workers who are applying for settlement in the UK.

Joining a Union
Our friends at The Voice of Domestic Workers and Waling Waling successfully formed a domestic worker branch as part of Unite the Union.
